Nearly 1000 applications received for ComSciCon 2015

The application period for the ComSciCon 2015 national workshop has now ended, and nearly 1000 graduate students from universities across the United States have applied to attend.

The applications are under review now by our graduate student Organizing Committee, with admissions announcements to be made on March 23rd.

With more than 970 applications in total, we received the highest volume of applications ever for a ComSciCon workshop.  Each application will be anonymized and read by at least two reviewers.

The third in our annual series of workshops for graduate students nationwide, ComSciCon 2015 will be held June 18 – 20th in Cambridge, MA.  As with all ComSciCon national workshops, graduate students from all US institutions with an interest in science communication were encouraged to apply.  Applicants from outside the Cambridge area will be provided with travel support and accommodations.

This year, 93% of applicants were first-time ComSciCon applicants.  We anticipate a 5% admissions rate given the 50 workshop participant slots available.  To support the large and growing demand for professional development in science communication among graduate students nationwide, ComSciCon is launching a series of regional ComSciCon-local workshops across the country and we have already announced the next three events in our annual national workshop series.  The next local workshop, ComSciCon-Triangle, takes place this week

ComSciCon workshops support graduate students engaged in and committed to leadership in the communication of research throughout science and engineering to broad and diverse audiences.  The structure and format of the June 2015 workshop will be similar to our past ComSciCon13 and ComSciCon14 events.  Attendees will interact with graduate student leaders in science communication from around the country, learn from expert professional communicators including journalists and educators, and will produce original works of science communication for publication.

The application for the ComSciCon 2015 national workshop closed on March 1st.  The application for the 2016 ComSciCon national workshop will be made available on or before January 2016.
