Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychiatry, University of Illinois in Chicago
| Lindsey is a postdoctoral fellow at UIC in the Psychiatry departmentOutside the lab, she enjoys watching and listening to true crime, sewing, thrifting and altering clothes, shopping for plants, zumbaDuring her graduate training, she felt inadequate when she could not understand a scientific presentation. Over many years, she learned that she wasn’t to blame. Instead, the problem was bad science communication on the presenter’s end. Being a scientist allows her to learn new things everyday, which she loves. However, the learning process can be extremely difficult so presenting the material in an understandable way is crucial! While scientific discoveries are needed to improve public health and policy, those discoveries will be meaningless if they are not effectively communicated in a language accessible to non-scientists.
